Holism/Plenum
2020
Holism/Plenum is an installation of readymade sculptures with an accompanying catalogue of found digital photographs. The impetus for this multi-media installation was a single product image of an unfamiliar object, whose abstracted form and elusive function captured my obsession. I began to amass a collection of these elements, thinking of them not as individual works or a series but as an installation, with each part inseparable from the others. At the same time as it is a study of abstraction, designed objects, form/function, Holism/Plenum is an examination of product images and targeted digital advertisements. It is a post-consumerist critique of the Internet. Holism/Plenum embodies, in part, the absurdities that arise due to the extreme decontextualization of consumer products when experienced in the 2D (4D?) digital space of the Internet.
